A young person asked if the temperature

of the palms rises during a Reiki session

– wanting to know what it feels like.  I don’t have a short answer.  But I do have evidence that warmth is created in the body and in the hands while the energy flows through during normal Reiki sessions.

There is the fact that it is common for practitioners I have known to break out in a sweat during  sessions. Also, every time I have placed a thermometer in the room the temperature rose a degree or two during a session.  Further evidence is in the fact that those on whom I lay my hands during sessions report feeling heat, except for one person who reported “tingling” instead.

But the crowning evidence, for me, of heat in the hands is an experience told by The Gypsy.   The person on her table complained of the heat being uncomfortable, whereupon The Gypsy asked her to please bear with it a little longer for maximum healing effect in her case.  When The Gypsy finally removed her hands there was a red handprint, such as you might have seen left by a heating pad.

Kriya practice seems to me to give a clue to this heat, at least as far as the perspiration is concerned.  One of the Kriya techniques has caused me to break into a sweat, and I am wondering if it is because the body wasn’t acclimated to the amount of energy created by the technique.  Kriya practitioners start small and gradually increase practice in order to prepare the body to handle the additional energy.  If the perspiration actually is caused by a bit more energy flowing through than the body is prepared for, then it seems to me reasonable to consider that the amount of energy in a Reiki session might be regulated by the usually unseen Reiki guides.  It’s also easy to think that the energy could be self regulating in this respect, since it has its own intelligence so that it goes to the spot where it’s needed, even when the practitioner doesn’t know for sure where that spot is.

As for the sensation — I have felt, constantly, the energy of the chakras in my palms and in the arches of my feet and in the spine and brain for years since starting the practice of Kriya.  Then later, upon receiving Reiki, the energy in the palms and feet began to be felt more strongly, and when activated during a session or by the need of someone nearby, or by someone on the phone or on the internet, the energy is felt more strongly still in the palms. I feel it as sort of an itch or sting in the center of the palms, sort of like an industrial grade tingling.  Different folks feel it differently.

The bio-energy field surrounds every living thing, from a planet, human being, animal, tree, leaf to a cell. Today science can read this frequency as it appears by way of a light and color spectrum resulting from bio-feedback or bio-pulsar measurements.

In old world paintings you may recall seeing halos or auras painted around subjects. The aura is not a mysterious and mystical thing. It is simply the energetic picture of our body’s state of wellness or illness.
